How to Book Fair
The Holiday Book Fair starts next week! Get holiday gifts, support your school and enjoy this Franklin-favorite community event!
Where: The Cafetorium
When:
Monday, 12/8 8:30am - 4pm
Tuesday, 12/9 10am - 6:30pm (Montana gate will be open after hours)
Wednesday, 12/11 12:00pm - 2:00pm
Thursday, 12/12 - 10am - 4:00pm
Friday, 12/13 - 8:30am - lunch
Or shop online any time from Dec 8 - Dec 21.
How: We take cash, credit, Apple Pay and eWallets, which you can set up for your child in advance now. Kids with an eWallet account can bring their printed barcode to school or we can look up their names at the register. Any unspent funds roll into a credit for Scholastic.com.
Why: Not only do 25% of sales go directly into Franklin Elementary programs like field trips, academic software, Science Fair and teacher grants, but we also donate books to both classroom libraries and local charities. Plus, for many kids, this is their first chance to buy something at a store on their own. They learn about paying with cash, getting change, estimating sales tax, and making the hard choices between the newest Dogman and a Dodgers poster.
What: Books, books, books, but also a fun "Candy Cane Guess" for all students (winners get a Book Fair shopping spree), holiday music and decorations, and good vibes. Don't want to spend a lot? We have a great selection of $2 and $5 books.
Sign up HERE TO VOLUNTEER - it's a blast (wait til you get your hands on the cash register) and a great way to socialize with other parents.
HOW TO SUPPORT YOUR TEACHERS AT BOOK FAIR
All classroom teachers will have a wish list box at Book Fair, on a table close to the registers. These are books your teacher hand-selected for their classroom library. To donate a book to your classroom, grab it from the designated box, buy it at the register, and give it directly to your teacher. We have TO/FROM gift stickers to place inside the front cover so your teacher will always remember your family, years from now! (Any teacher-selected books that are unsold by Thursday evening will be returned to the shelves for our final sales push Friday morning.)
AUTHOR TALK
For this year's AUTHOR TALK, we are very proud to present Barney Saltzberg, the best-selling author of nearly 50 picture books including Beautiful Oops, Just a Banana, Rabbit’s Feat, A Delicious Story, The Smell of Wet Dog and Crazy Hair Day. Barney will be leading three grade-level assemblies on Wednesday, 12/10 and can answer students' questions about how to write AND illustrate books!
To pre-order autographed copies of Barney’s books, personalized to your child, use this order form from Children’s Book World (click “more info” to complete order). Autographed books will be delivered to the fair. They make great gifts too!
CHARITABLE GIVING
This year’s philanthropy is the Marquez Elementary School Library. Consider donating a new book from Book Fair to help them rebuild after the fires.
Don't miss out on the fun! Reach out with any questions to Book Fair Co-Chairs Jessica Haberli (jessica.haberli@gmail.com) and Amy Wruble (amywruble@gmail.com).
