Zoom With a Neuroscientist
March 10, 2022 @ 6:00pm

In this presentation, by Evan Smith, a Neuroscientist at the University of Texas at Dallas, he will discuss the organization of the brain, how different areas are specialized for different functions, and how it changes in response to experience.
The Amazing Universe of the James Webb Space Telescope
February 16, 2022 @ 6:00pm
The James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) recently blasted off into orbit on December 25, 2021. A month later, JWST reached its destination one million miles from Earth, where it is currently preparing to explore the farthest reaches of space. JWST will teach us about the very first stars, galaxies, and black holes that formed in the universe, and give unprecedented views of planets around other stars like our Sun. Please join Alice Shapley, a Franklin mom and professor of Astronomy at UCLA, for an interactive presentation about the amazing universe to be revealed by JWST.
Minerals Through a Microscope – January 26, 2022 @ 6:00pm
Have you ever wondered what a rock looks like up close? Really close? Geologists do, and so can you!
In this presentation, by Edwin Schauble, Franklin dad and UCLA Professor of Earth, Planetary, and Space Sciences, students will see how crystals split and bend light, and how we can use light to identify minerals with a rock microscope.
Kelp! I Need Somebody! – December 15, 2021 @ 6:00pm
Learn how marine biologists are protecting and restoring the kelp forests, abalone, eel grass, and beaches right here in Los Angeles. Tom Ford, CEO of The Bay Foundation, is globally recognized for his precedent setting work in coastal restoration. His presentation will show photos, videos and his methods to keep our coast full of life and beauty.
