Hello Franklin Families,
Thank you for the thoughtful, caring, and productive conversations you shared with your child’s teacher during conference week. We truly value this time to set goals together and strengthen the wonderful home–school partnership that supports each child’s growth and success.
Another highlight this week was classes paying tribute to our Ofrenda, honoring Día de los Muertos, in our cafetorium – very special in so many ways! At today’s assembly, we were thrilled to see so much Franklin pride as we introduced our new Core Value: Cooperation! Ms. Pickett and I can’t wait to visit classrooms to read literature that highlights this value; Milo and the Magical Stones, Swimmy, Jabari Tries, and A Chair for My Mother. I encourage you to read these books with your child and discuss examples of cooperation in your lives and beyond.
Exciting news! The Santa Monica–Malibu Unified School District (SMMUSD) is proud to share that 6 of its 17 schools have been named to the 2025 California Honor Roll — and Franklin is one of them! 🎉This recognition celebrates schools that are closing achievement gaps and preparing students for success in college, career, and life. We are proud of our incredible Franklin teachers for their dedication and excellence in meeting the diverse needs of all our students. (See the attached press release for more details.)
The countdown is on — just 7 days until our Move-a-Thon on November 14! We’re aiming for 100% participation, and we’re so grateful for your enthusiasm and support for our biggest fundraiser of the year.
In addition, a huge thank-you to our amazing PTA for designing and providing new Franklin Friend T-shirts for every student and staff member — they’re out of this world! 🚀
And finally, a special shout-out to our SMMUSD Superintendent, Dr. Antonio Shelton, who visited one of our 5th grade classrooms last week to teach a dynamic history lesson. He connected so beautifully with our students, and we’re deeply appreciative of the time he spent with our Franklin community.
